Top NDFB(S) leader nabbed in BTAD

GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - As part of its intensified operation under the United Command structure, security forces, led by Assam Police, tasted a major success after self-styled chief of army staff of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (S) Rabi Basumatary alias Rongjabaja was arrested along with his personal security officer Jwnglaw Narzary from the Morabari jungle near the Hakua river on the bordering area of Baksa and Chirang districts in BTAD today.

Rongjabaja is believed to be one of the prized catches for the security forces in the recent past.

The joint operation of Assam Police, Army and Sashastra Seema Bal, also recovered an AK 56 rifle, 170 rounds of AK ammunition, 50 rounds of INSAS ammunition and four hand grenades from them. Rongjabaja, according to security forces, was involved in the killing of Naryan Barman, the then in-charge of Rupsi Outpost in Kokrajhar district on September 26 in 2013.

Sources informed that specific tip-off was received by the security forces after which the hunt was launched under the supervision of IGP (BTAD) LR Bishnoi and Chirang SP Ranjan Bhuyan that led to the arrest of the dreaded NDFB(S) leader around 9 am.

Sources said that it is also zeroing in on the whereabouts of other top leaders of the NDFB(S), including B Bidai, who are believed to be on the run ever since the operation was launched.
