Tinsukia rally over drug menace

TINSUKIA, May 13 - A strong contingent of students under the banner of the Tinsukia District Students� Union (TDSU) along with its 12 regional units took out a bike rally today demanding strong action against the drug traders and peddlers in the district.

The rally taken out from the office of the student body near Tinsukia College, Katchujan roamed around the town before reaching the deputy commissioner�s office complex here where the students staged a dharna raising slogans against the drug traders and peddlers and demanded that district administration and police must act to curb the menace with strong hands.

The protesters alleged that the drug business has taken a dirty turn for which the common people, especially the youths are suffering. They also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner in this regard.

It may be mentioned here that on May 12, a good quantity of brown sugar was recovered from a student of Tinsukia ITI.
