Tinsukia boys tame Sivasagar to lift title

GUWAHATI, May 18 � Tinsukia outwitted Sivasagar by 79 runs in the final of the Umananda Bora Memorial U-13 Inter District Cricket Championship.

In a one-sided summit clash at the Barsapara stadium here today, in reply to Tinsukia�s 145 for the loss of six wickets in 40 overs, Sivasagar were all out for 66 in 34.1 overs.

Electing to bat first Tinsukia had a disastrous start losing top half for 50 in 25.4 overs. But the man-of-the-match Animesh Baruah dragged his team to a comfortable position remaining unbeaten with 72. Animesh�s 93-ball knock was studded with eight fours and a six. His sixth wicket partnership with Abhishek Bhuyan (33) resulted most valuable 88 runs off 79 balls. The Sivasagar boys were too slow while chasing the target. Their strategy was not according to the demand of the situation and finally fell 79 runs short. Not a single batsman tried for big hits as their top scorer was Biki Singh with 11.

Tinsukia bowler Rohit Agarwal ripped through the Sivasagar batting line up with five wickets. Nihar Deka of Nalbari, who scored 210 runs in four matches, was adjudged man-of-the-series while Biki Singh of Sivasagar received the best bowler award for taking 14 wickets. Gaurav Thakuria of Goalpara, who scored the only century in the tournament, was presented a bat by the organisers Assam Cricket Association (ACA).

In the closing function, ACA president Gautam Roy, secretary Bikash Baruah, other officials Bhakti Medhi, Biswanath Saha, Sujit Choudhury, Abdul Khaleq, junior selection committee chairman, Mukut Das, sister of Umananda Bora, Rina Bora, brother Jadab Bora were present as guests and they also gave away the prizes.
