Tinsukia admin gears up for polls

TINSUKIA, March 6 - With the announcement of Assembly elections in the State, the Tinsukia district administration officials are on toes to make the necessary arrangement for free and fair polls in the region.

At a press meet held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner�s office complex here on Saturday, the Deputy Commissioner, Puru Gupta, said that all necessary steps would be taken up for smooth and hassle-free voting in all the three Legislative Assembly Constituencies namely, 122 Tinsukia, 123 Digboi and 125 Doomdooma which were under his jurisdiction as Returning Officer.

He also disclosed that there are 20 polling booths marked as most sensitive and 161 booths were sensitive. He also added that those booths which have the history of polling of more than 75 per cent votes would be kept under strict vigil.

Moreover, three model police stations, one for each constituency would be set up for the election purpose, he added. There are total 166 polling stations with 9 very sensitive and 38 sensitive booths in Tinsukia LAC, In Doomdoona LAC, out of 160 polling stations, 9 are the most sensitive and 66 are sensitive polling and in Digboi LAC, out of 140 polling stations, 2 booths are the most sensitive and 57 are sensitive.

The number of voters in Tinsukia LAC is 1,41,401, in Digboi 1,12,984 and in Doomdooma 1,19 384. The press meet was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Diganta Saikia and Election Officer Sushanta Dutta.
