Tihu Barowari Raas Mahotsav from Nov 23

TIHU, Nov 17 - Brisk preparations are afoot to hold the 66th Tihu Barowari Raas Mahotsav with an 11-day long programme starting from November 23 to December 3 with religious zeal and gaiety.

In this connection, a strong celebration committee along with 15 sub-committees have been formed with Prafulla Rajbongshi as president, Harekrishna Medhi as working president, Paresh Ch. Sarma, Jogeswar Baishya, Bharat Talukdar, Kushal Talukdar, Gunajit Medhi as vice-presidents, Sushil Das as secretary, Hitesh Barman and Kamal Pathak as joint secretaries, Nagen Saloi, Hiren Bhatta, Sunny Talukdar, Bhaskardip Barman and Rupam Kalita as assistant secretaries and Chandra Kalita and Bijay Talukdar as office secretaries.

This year, the celebration committee has taken several steps to attract more visitors from various corners of the State. Sushil Das, secretary of the celebration committee informed that the venue of the festival and the gates to be installed will be decorated with modern lights.

In the mean time, the celebration committee is working on a war footing to make the festival successful. In all, 50 stalls are being readied for installation of various clay idols. The Tihu river also is being decorated with profusion of various kinds of lights to install some idols on the river bed. Besides a �Mina Bazar� is expected to add to the attraction. Again, book fair, various competitions like essay and drawing contests, aaiyotir naam competition, dance contest, cultural nights with artiste Arohan Bardoloi, Miss Kimi and Biki, Rhythm, Nabanita Sarma, Bhaskar Pratim, Aparna Chetri, Anurag Kashyap, Ajay Gayan, Miss Boby, Jiyan Jonak, Priyanka Kashyap and popular singer Manas Rabin will enthrall the audience.

Fifteen sub-committees have been constituted to look after the various aspects of the celebration. It may be mentioned here that this year this mega event will be formally inaugurated on November 23 at 5 pm by former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, in the presence of dignitaries like Hagrama Mahilary, BTC chief as chief guest, Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, Education Minister of Assam, Dr Shyamal Saikia, SP, Crime Investigation Unit, Assam, Nitin Jain, Director, Pradiji Communication and Marketing Pvt Ltd and Maneswar Brahma, MLA, Barama LAC as the distinguished guests.
