Thunderstorm cripples life in Cachar

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, April 16 - Strong winds together with thunderstorm over the past few days made life difficult for the people of Cachar district.

In Katigorah Assembly constituency, people are reeling under severe power crisis. Nearly 400 homes in western parts of the constituency are spending days without electricity after the storm pounded areas of Telitikor, Talkar, Rajpur, Saraspur and Sadirkhal. Gushing winds have also uprooted trees which have damaged many hutments.

Despite efforts made to restore the power supply, lightning and thundershowers are making things worse as the transformers are being damaged.

On the other hand, residents of Irongmara adjacent to Assam University, Silchar, are facing power crisis for the past 72 hours. On Friday, people of the locality along with a section of the students of the university took to the streets slamming the Assam State Electricity Board for its inability to restore power supply.

Students have alleged that the restoration process should have been done with priority here.
