Three more JMB cadres held by Barpeta Police

By Correspondent

BARPETA, Aug 4 - Three more cadres of the Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) were arrested by the police last night, taking the total number of arrests during this week to seven.

According to reports available, Mustafijur Rahman, a resident of Chatala under Sarthebari Police Station was picked up from the village. Later, Danesh Ali, also a resident of the same village was also picked from Itarvita in Barpeta district. The third one, Safikul Islam, known to be a resident of Jania in Barpeta district, was picked up from Kaplabari in Nalbari district.

While Mustafijur and Safikul are known as trained cadres of the outfit, details of Danesh Ali are not known yet. All the three were produced before the court today which remanded them to eight days of police custody.

Mustafijur was educated in a Hafijia Madrassa in Bihar and later appeared in the HSLC Examination here. He is known to be a close associate of Sahnur Alam, the main accused of the Assam Module of the JMB. It must be mentioned here that Mustafijur was one of the accomplices of Sahnur in organising advance Namaz during Id-ul-Fitre in 2014.

Earlier, four JMB cadres, three from different parts of the district and one from Chirang, were arrested by police on July 30 and 31 last. It is learnt that the arrest of the latter three follows the confessional statements of the four arrested earlier.

The presence of JMB in the interior areas of the district is not a new event. It has been reported off and on since 2014 and the National Investigating Agency with the cooperation of the police had arrested a number of cadres then. Though it was presumed that flow of youths to this outfit will stop, it has proven to be wrong with these new entrants. The arrest of the large gang just before Independence Day has raised eyebrows of the conscious people and the administration as well.
