IMPHAL, Dec 25 - Manipur has reported three more deaths due to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, officials said here today.
The cumulative number of virus deaths in the State has now touched 344. In the last 24 hours, three men succumbed to the virus at the JNIMS hospital, Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said in a press release today. All of them were from Imphal East and aged between 48 and 74 years.
In the past 24 hours, 67 persons from the general population tested positive for COVID-19. The new COVID-19 cases were detected at 10 testing facilities in the State.
Meanwhile, a total of 74 persons were discharged from 12 COVID care facilities in the past 24 hours, the release added. The cumulative number of positive cases is 27,943 while the numbers of active and recovered cases were 1,352 and 26,247 respectively, it added. The recovery rate is 93.93 percent.
So far, 5,16,988 persons were screened at various entry/exit points to Manipur, while 4,71,346 individuals were tested for COVID-19 at various testing centres in the State, official sources said.
The State Health Department also appealed to the people to self-isolate themselves and contact COVID control room or the Chief Medical Officer for testing if they come into contact with a positive person.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch, has issued an advisory since a spike is COVID-19 cases cannot be ruled out during the festive season even though the number of COVID-19 cases is on a decline in the State over the last few weeks. The IMA has urged the people to avoid crowded places and large gatherings besides strictly following the social distancing norm.
