Three Kohima schools declared �tobacco free�

DIMAPUR, Sept 26 - Three schools in Kohima district were declared �Tobacco Free Schools� during a meeting of District Level Committee on Tobacco Control (DLCC) held at Kohima DC�s office on September 23, according to an official release today.

Mezhur Higher Secondary School, Mt Hermon Higher Secondary School and Holy Family School were declared �Tobacco Free Schools� as they fulfilled the criteria of the national guidelines on �Tobacco Free School�. Kohima ADC Lithrongla Tongpi gave away the certificates to the representatives of the schools.

State Nodal Officer Dr H Chishi, emphasised on the importance of �Tobacco Free School� as the school children are unable to understand the reality of how the tobacco company has been aggressively attacking them. He said the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has been working to reduce the use of tobacco in order to protect the children from this menace.
