Three killed in city landslide

GUWAHATI, June 22 - Three persons including two minors were killed in their sleep when their house at Lalung-gaon, Gorchuk, was buried under loose earth triggered by a landslide in the wee hours today.

The dead have been identified as Nima Ram (32), Rahul Choudhury (8) and Anuj Baishya (4), according to Gorchuk Police Station.

Police and 1st Bn NDRF that conducted the rescue operations recovered the bodies from under the debris.

Police said that the heavy rains last evening caused the landslide. �We rushed our forces as soon as we got the information about the incident,� said an officer of Gorchuk Police Station.

The NDRF, on being informed by the DC Office, Kamrup (Metro), mobilized its rescue team consisting of officers and rescuers including a dog squad.

�Our teams conducted a search-and-rescue operation with available logistics along with a sniffer dog squad for approximately one-and-a-half hours and recovered the body of Nima Ram, who was from Rajasthan,� said an NDRF official.
