MANGALDAI, Dec 30 - Police on Tuesday arrested three persons in connection with the case of attacking and seriously injuring one Suklal Mandal besides setting ablaze several huts in number-2 Hetou Chapori under Mangaldai Police Station two days ago.

They have been identified as Korban Ali, Mohammad Ali and Ali Haidar of Number-1 Hetou Chapori. A case has already been registered by the police on the basis of an FIR lodged by Priya Nath Nath of Mahabahu Krishi Samabay Samiti, the united forum of more than 80 indigenous farmers of both Hindu and Muslim who used to farm in about 600 bighas of land for the last 30 years.

It is worth mentioning here that situation in the area reportedly turned tense since September following erecting of few huts by some unidentified persons within a night with the alleged intention of encroaching the land occupied by the indigenous farmers community.

Meanwhile, the Darrang district administration has organised a meeting with the representatives of different local organisations to sort out the issue.
