Three-day �Metropolis� event to begin at Shillong today

SHILLONG, Nov 21 - The 6th edition of Metropolis would begin here tomorrow with artists from all over the globe and the country taking part in the vent.

Metropolis all these years was held in Guwahati and this is the first time it is being shifted out of Guwahati, Rajib Phukan, founder of Metropolis said today. The event would be held from November 22 to 24 and the events would be held at three venues: Shillong Club, State Central Library and All Saint�s Hall.

This year, the event is being supported by the Embassies of Hungary, Czech Republic, France, Spain, Portugal, Poland and Mexico, he informed.

The theme of this year�s event is �The Earth Connect� which would focus on environmental degradation and the artists through their works would try to create awareness on this important issue, Phukan said.

He said that poets, storytellers, musicians and performing artistes from Russia and Siberia would present their traditional as well as contemporary art forms during the festival.

The Cultures of Resistance from the United States, one of the world�s leading travelling film festivals, would be screening films from across the globe.

�Metropolis this year would host the Global Watercolour Summit here which would feature some of the best known artists from across the globe in this genre,� Phukan added.

Apart from these there are a number of other programmes lined up that includes the Metropolis Green Ride in which cyclists would ride from Guwahati to Shillong on November 23 to spread awareness on the environment.

Cosplay artists, street soccer would be the other attractions of the event in which renowned Cosplay artist, Niha Novacaine and Jean Doest, the world Panna Ball champion would be performing.

�There would also be 19 bands that would be performing during the events and 15 of these bands are from Shillong,� he informed.
