GUWAHATI, Sept 8 The third girder of Bogibeel bridge was successfully launched on September 6.

Work on launching the 125 metre-span girder started on September 3, Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) Senior PRO DC Borah said in a statement.

The launching of girders was done by pulling the three connected girders by two 1,000 metric tonne jack with high tensile steel strands and the total weight of girders pulled was 5,300 tonne, he said.

The first and second girders of Bogibeel bridge were launched on April 25 and July 7, respectively.

There will be a total of 39 girders of 125 metre and two girders of 33 metre span in the bridge.

Girder fabrication and assembly works are being done by specialized welded technology. Fabrication of eight girders has been completed and fabrication of further eight girders is in progress. It is planned to launch 10 girders in 2014-15. Borah said that work on the 4.95 km rail-cum-road bridge is going on in full swing and is planned for completion by June 2017.
