By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, Aug 12 - Ramen Deka, Member of Parliament from Mangaldai Lok Sabha constituency and panelist speaker of the Lok Sabha, observed that despite the huge population, there was no scarcity of jobs, though there is scarcity of competent people.

MP Deka was interacting with young job seekers at the Mega Job Mela, Darrang 2018 organised jointly by the Darrang chapter of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission and the district administration at Mangaldai Sanatan Dharmasabha premises on Sunday afternoon.

In his speech, the MP underlined the need of skill development to get a job. If you dont have any skill, then you cant earn. He highlighted the high demand for skilled workers like mason, carpenter, plumber etc., both in India and foreign countries.

Recently, Mauritius was in need of 50,000 youths to work in the country as masons, carpenters, plumbers, bar tenders etc., and anyone with such skill can easily avail these opportunities. .

MP Deka observed, all our unemployed youths want to join higher jobs without considering their qualification and knowledge. Several young participants, including Bipul Mandal, Imamul Haque and Feroja Khatun underlined how after being trained under Government-sponsored programmes they became self- dependent.

The session was also addressed by Binanda Kumar Saikia, MLA of Sipajhar, Darrang DC Ashok Kumar Barman and Chairman of Mangaldai Municipal Board Pratap Bordoloi, among others.

Earlier, while explaining the objectives of the job mela organised for the first time in the district, Pankaj Chakravarty, Project Director of Darrang DRDA informed that the mela aimed to offer opportunities for rural unemployed youths of the district having qualification of VIII standard pass and above for on-the-spot registration and placements in various trades depending on their capabilities.
