Theft at Silchar Shani temple

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, April 27 - Two persons broke open the locker of the Shani temple at Sadarghat here on Tuesday midnight and stole Rs 2.50 lakh along with ornaments.

The police night patrol fired two rounds but the men decamped with the cash and ornaments kept in the locker leaving the temple night guard Khukan Das bleeding with severe head injury. Sniffer dogs were brought in to investigate the theft.

Interestingly, during the initial search, police recovered a 9 mm pistol near the boundary wall of the temple adjoining the court campus. Police claimed that this was the same pistol that was stolen a few days ago from the PI court. The CCTV storage device of the temple was also recovered in a damaged condition.

The night guard said around 1:30 am, two persons came with sharp weapons and asked me to obey their orders. When I objected, they hit me hard on my head after which I became momentarily unconscious... They spoke in broken Bengali and Manipuri.
