Theatre group gives financial aid to ailing actress

DOOMDOOMA, Sept 22 - Nirmali Konwar Gogoi, an eminent stage actress and Bihu dancer has been suffering from critical ailment for the last three years.

Having millions of dreams in her eyes to live and perform on the stage again, her condition has been deteriorating everyday. Her husband Ranjit Gogoi has been selling out his properties one after another for the treatment of his wife.

To raise fund for her treatment, Abhinava Natya Mancha (ANAM), an amateur theatre group of Doomdooma of which Nirmali is also a member, staged three dramas at Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha Bhawan on September 14 and 15.

On the first night, Kuranganayani Aru Ek Sakti � Raghav Moran, written and directed by Joysuryya Bora was staged. Before that a children drama named Light, Camera, Action written by Gunjan Bharali was staged under the direction of Nayan Deka. On the second night, Joymoti written and directed by Rajiblochan Bora was staged. Over 50 new and veteran actors and actresses of Doomdooma acted in these dramas.

Through these dramatic performances, ANAM could raise a fund for the treatment of the ailing actress. On Wednesday evening, a delegation of ANAM led by its president Deben Deka and secretary Nayan Deka visited the residence of Nirmali Konwar Gogoi and felicitated her with a phulam gamosa and handed over a cash amount of Rs one lakh to her. The delegation of ANAM also prayed for the speedy recovery of the actress.

The philanthropic act of ANAM has been praised by all in the tea town. Nirmali Konwar Gogoi and her family also expressed their gratitude to ANAM.
