Tezpur varsity VC selection today

NEW DELHI, April 22 � A high-powered selection panel is meeting on Monday to select the next Vice-Chancellor of Tezpur University. A noted Assamese scientist is amo ng five candidates short-listed for selection.

The three-member panel of selector include director, Moleculor Science, Tata Institute of Fundamental Scienc, Vice-Chancellor of JNU, Ashis Dutta and former VC of NEHU, Mrinal Miri. The meeting would be held at the Indian National Science Academy here tomorrow.

The five candidates short-listed include Prasanta Goswami, who is a chief scientist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Bangalore, sources said.

Acoording to set procedure, the expert panel would short-list three of the five candidates before recommending their names to the President. The President would finalise the next VC in consultation with the HRD Ministry and Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, said sources.
