Tezpur University to preserve artworks of Neelpawan Baruah

GUWAHATI, Oct 1 - An agreement was signed between Neelpawan Baruah and Tezpur University (TU) today at the artist�s residence here, according to which TU will preserve some of the artworks of Baruah which he had donated to the university.

The agreement was signed by Dr Biren Das, Registrar of TU on behalf of university authority and Baruah.

The initiative has been taken under the aegis of the UGC-sponsored Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area granted to the Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University. The artworks of Baruah were handed over to the university in presence of Prof Debarshi Prasad Nath, Head, Department of Cultural Studies and Chief Coordinator, Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area; Dr Parasmoni Dutta, Deputy Coordinator, Centre with Potential for Excellence in Particular Area; Dr Moushumi Kandali; Dr Sunil Pawan Baruah, younger brother of the artist and artist Ratul Gogoi.

The artworks obtained from the artist will be preserved in the form of a museum of modern art curated by Dr Kandali, who is an art critic and faculty of the Department of Cultural Studies at the university.
