Terror �outfit� busted by police in North Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR, Nov 27 � Lakhimpur police yesterday evening busted a terror outfit at ots nascent stage with several arrests and haul of arms and ammunition. The budding terror module named Assam Tribal Commando was busted in Chawul Dhowa Ghat area of eastern Lakhimpur district following intelligence report in a joint operation by Chawul Dhowa Ghat Police Out Post and Bogeenadi Police Station.

The Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur, David Nythong received reports of the underground activities of the outfit some days ago and waited for a while to make the module unaware of the police preparations.

Yesterday evening around 7.30 pm, the police led by IC Rudra Kanta Hazarika of Chawul Dhowa Ghat Police Out Post and the Officer-in-Charge of Bogeenadi Police Station Biren Baruah accompanied by SP David arrested four members of the outfit including its �chairman� Rinku Doimari of Kaupatanee village of Gogamukh from their hideout in Chawul Dhowa Ghat. The other three are identified as Chinu Das, a lady member from Kaupatanee village, Gobin Basumatary and Maina Das. The fifth member of the outfit, Rakesh Sonowal is absconding. A large cache of arms and ammunition including two US made 7.65 mm pistol, three magazines, 7 rounds of live cartridges, mobile phones, binoculars and camouflage military fatigues from their possession.

The yet-to-be-surfaced Assam Tribal Commando planned to strengthen its organizational base by extortion from different districts of the State. They expected of receiving governmental help for rehabilitation after surrender following the formation of the terror outfit, as seen in many militant organizations of the State.

The arrested persons of the outfit admitted buying weapons from arms market in Dimapur. The police action which nipped the terror outfit in bud has earned public accolade here.
