MANGALDAI, Dec 29 - Tension prevails at Hetou Chapori under Mangaldai Police Station since Monday afternoon following an attack on a person by some unidentified miscreants armed with sharp weapons.

The person, identified as Suklal Mandal (52), was admitted to the Civil Hospital here with severe injuries on head and hands. He is the son of one Khusi Mohan Mandal of Mowamari Chapori.

According to the family members, Suklal went to collect fodder for his cattle when some unidentified persons attacked him at around 1.30 pm. The miscreants also set a couple of temporary huts on fire, owned by local villagers. However, no casualty has been reported, the police said.

A team led by Darrang Superintendent of Police, Sunil Kumar, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Meanwhile, a section of local BJP supporters along with some local youths resorted to a brief national highway blockade programme here at Girls' School Chariali at around 3 pm, demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants.
