Teli secures 64.94% of total votes polled

DIBRUGARH, May 24 - The final result of the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha polls, which was officially declared late night yesterday showed that BJP candidate Rameshwar Teli won by a margin of 3,64,566 votes to retain the 13 Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat for the second term. He got 6,59,583 votes after the full vote count, securing 64.94% of the valid votes polled.

First runners-up Paban Singh Ghatowar of the Indian National Congress (INC) got 2,95,017 votes. The other contenders included, Bhaben Baruah of National People�s Party (9718 votes), Dr Titus Bhengra of Bahujan Mukti Party (6933 votes), Independent candidate Apurba Saikia (3811 votes), Independent candidate Israil Nanda (5687 votes), Independent candidate Nurul Huda Imdadul Islam Saikia (5599 votes) and another Independent candidate Rubul Buragohain (8112 votes).

In the assembly constituencies, Teli secured the highest winning margin from Tinsukia LAC (67,550) followed by Margherita (64,010) and Digboi (42,144). Similarly, he won by a margin of 39,619 from Lahoal LAC, 38,686 from Dibrugarh LAC, 29,717 from Duliajan LAC, 29,161 from Moran LAC, 28,067 from Tingkhong LAC and 24,366 from Naharkatia LAC.

The total number of �none of the above� (NOTA) hits amounted to 21,288. The total number of rejected votes were 244 and total number of tendered votes were 21. The 13-Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency has altogether 1314319 electors, for the just concluded elections.
