JORABAT, Oct 26 - A year back emergency telephones were installed for use by commuters along the NH 40, which starts from Jorabat Tinali to Shillong, by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
The com,muters were happy over the installation of these unique telephone booths which were new to the region. But astonishingly these emergency telephone booths are now lying non-functional since last four-five months, Shyam Chetri, a resident of 13th Mile area said. These non-functional emergency telephone booths have now become only a show piece, he added.
Another resident Amar Basfore of Umpher urged the authorities to repair these booths as soon as possible.
The stretch of NH 40 from Jorabat to Byrnihat is prone to accidents and these phone booths would have proved a boon if maintained by the
authorities.
