Teachers want to be freed from NRC duty

By Correspondent

UDALGURI, Sept 7 - The schoolteachers, who were engaged by the Udalguri district administration in the ongoing work on National Register of Citizens (NRC) in 45 centres, made an appeal to the administration to exempt them from the NRC duties so that they could complete their academic courses in their respective schools.

The district administration should consider our helplessness for the greater interest of the student community as we could not attend classes for last two months due to our engagements in the NRC activities in the respective centres. It is hampering the teaching process in most of the schools in the area, said an assistant teacher engaged as local officer in an NRC centre.

He added, Udalguri district is the only district in the state where teachers are engaged in this (NRC) work. There are so many government employees passing their time either in the canteens or playing cards even in the office hours.
