Teachers to stage stir during R-Day function

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Jan 25 - Demonstrating their displeasure over the State governments lack of action on their various demands, the members of Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha would stage protest during the Republic Day programme at Khanapara here, tying their mouths with black clothes.

The teachers fighting for the non-provincialised schools that have been kept out of the ambit of the Assam Venture Educational Institutions (Provincialisation of Service) Act have been demanding justice for teachers and school staff, who were working with dedication for students in far-flung areas of the State.

The Mancha has been demanding further amendment of the Act and to bring a bill in this regard in the coming State Assembly on February 1.

We would stage protest tying our mouths and wearing black badges in front of the Chief Minister during the Republic Day function. Our members would also locally register their protest, said Dr Prabhat Chandra Kalita, president of the Mancha.

The organisation further added that if action is not taken on their demands, the Mancha members would lead a protest march on February 28 from Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhikshetra tying gamosa around their belly and waving plates and bowls symbolising their pitiable condition.

The delegations of our representatives met the State Education Minister and recently we went to the State Legislative Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi. Though we have got assurances, a concrete action is still awaited, said the general secretary of the Mancha Anowar Hussain Choudhury.
