GUWAHATI, Sept 7 - In support of their various demands, the primary teachers will stage a sit-in demonstration across the State on October 5 on the occasion of World Teachers Day.

In a statement, the Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA) said the primary teachers of Assam have decided to stage the protest as the state government has failed in fulfilling the assurances made eight months ago during a meeting with the ASPTA.

The demands include the appointment of permanent headteachers in primary schools and to continue the grade pay for the graduate teachers as per earlier rule.

On August 25, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal again sat for meeting with the ASPTA where the teachers body urged Sonowal to fulfil their demands within September 5 but the government did not take any steps to address those issues.
