Teachers� meet seeks new grade fixation

HAILAKANDI, Feb 4 - In all, 13 resolutions were adopted in the two-day 41st biennial conference of Hailakandi Zila Prathamik Sikshak Sanmilani held here at Dayamoyee Pathways.

The resolutions adopted in the conference included fixation of grade pay as per the 7th Pay Commission, creation of posts of headmasters in primary schools, payment of Rs 8,700 grade pay to the trained graduate teachers of primary schools, introduction of old pension rules in lieu of new pension scheme, unconditional confirmation of services of contractual teachers, ban on sanction of permission of private schools within one km of government schools, etc.

A new committee was also constituted in the conference for the next two years with Jibitesh Das as president and Syed Ahmed Laskar as general secretary.

The open session held on the occasion was presided over by Monojit Deb. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, educationist Dr Paritosh Chandra Dutta said that non-implementation of government education policies properly and an attitude of negligence by the government are responsible for the pitiable condition of schools.

Dutta alleged that commercialisation of education and random establishment of private educational institutions are major factors responsible for degradation of government schools. He sought rectification of the government�s education policy and urged the teachers to dedicate themselves for the cause of the society, apart from their government duties.

The conference was inaugurated by hoisting of the flag by former president Ranabir Das. A cultural procession was brought out through the main thoroughfares of Hailakandi town with decorated tableaux.
