Teachers held for terror financing

GUWAHATI, July 4 - A school principal and a schoolteacher were among four persons arrested by police in Chirang district on charges of terror financing during an operation coordinated in the last 48 hours.

The arrested over-ground workers of the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Songbijit), according to police, were involved in carrying out extortion drives in the district for quite some time.

Those arrested include Jitendra Narzary, Principal, Tukrajhar HS School, Pradip Narzary, a teacher of Bengtol MV School, Monika Basumatary and Pinkush Narzary. Monika is the wife of Ranjit Basumatary alias Ferranga, a former lecturer of Bengtol College, who later went on to become the self-styled general secretary of the NDFB(S) and is now believed to be in Myanmar, said Chirang Superintendent of Police Shankar Rai Medhi.
