IMPHAL, Sept 5 � Teachers� Day was celebrated all over Manipur today with nine teachers being honoured with awards at the main function organised by the State Education department at Bengali High School campus here.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa, Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai and Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro presented the awards to the teachers at the function. Three other teachers were honoured with appreciation awards.

Gaikhangam also inaugurated the building of Teachers� Short Stay Home inside the School campus. In his presidential speech, Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro said the government is planning to open four more degree colleges and 39 vocational courses in order to provide adequate educational opportunities to the students. He informed that the Department of Education will be implementing a concrete transfer policy for the teachers within a short span of time after the rationalisation process is completed.
