Teachers body seeks discussion with Govt

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 17 The Asom Sikshak Karmachari Aikya Mancha has asked the State government to keep its promise and fix a date of discussion with the Mancha before March 20 for the redressal of their grievances regarding thze provincialisation of venture schools, and teachers and other staff members of such schools.

The Mancha staged a protest demonstration on March 13 at Dispur Lastgate against the exclusion of many venture educational institutions from the list of those institutions, which were provincialised in the first phase.

We were called for a discussion with the government representative during the dharna on March 13 and a written assurance was given to us that proper discussion with the Chief Minister, Education Minister and other higher officials of Education Department would be organised to address the issues of Mancha before March 20. However, till today, we have not got any information regarding the meeting, said the general secretary of the Mancha, Anwar Hussain Choudhury.

Our plan to go to Delhi and submit memorandums to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other national leaders has also been deferred due to the meeting. However, if the proposed meeting is not held within the given time limit, we would again sit for a dharna at Dispur Lastgate with our families on March 21, he added.

The Mancha is also planning to send a delegation to Delhi by March 25.

The recently published first phase list of provincialised educational institutions have disqualified almost 60 per cent of the eligible schools and teachers. It is very disappointing for those who have worked dedicatedly for years together in such institutions against a meagre honorarium, he added.
