RAHA, Feb 20 - Guneswar Nath, a primary school teacher, who was serving for the last 31 years without any salary passed away on Monday due to lack of money for his treatment. He was 50.
The teacher was hit by a speeding vehicle on NH 37 at Raha while on his way to Kapili Block Elementary Education office, Raha on February 13 last. He was admitted to Guwahati Medical College & Hospital for better medical treatment. He was in the hospital for the last few days but could not continue his treatment due to scarcity of funds.
The ill-fated teacher was rendering services as the headmaster of Nandiram Bordoloi Primary School, Palashguri under Kapili Block Elementary Education office, Raha since the establishment of the school in 1987.
It may be mentioned here that the school, of which Guneswar Nath was a founder headmaster, was not provincialised. However, Nath continued to render his services in the school for his commitment to education and requests from villagers. His only mode of transportation to school was his bicycle.
Although the teacher was struggling to support his family of three members, he passed some of the most valuable time of his life in services of students. He forgot the deprivation his family was facing and spent his time with his students even after not getting any salary.
His love for students was witnessed when the students visited each household of their respective villages requesting money for his treatment. The students too organised several prayer meets in their school and village naamghars for his early recovery.
The sudden demise of the amiable teacher has cast a pall of gloom in Palashguri village.
