By ANN Service

BAIHATA CHARIALI, May 17 - The sterling performance by the son of a tea stall worker in the HSLC examination has created a festive mood in Baihata Chariali.

Kaushik Deka, son of Uddhab Deka of Agdala village and a student of Agdala Chariali High School here, obtained distinction with letter marks in all six subjects 93 marks in Assamese, 89 in English, 93 in General Mathematics, 84 in General Science, 82 in Social Studies and 82 in Sanskrit.

A worker at a local restaurant, Kaushiks father is partially physically-challenged and a stammerer, whose daily wage is the only income source for the family. With this minimum income, Uddhab Deka had to face a lot of trouble during his sons studies.

Kaushik took no private tuition and did not get any help from his family members during his studies as his parents are illiterate.

Kaushiks father said he is unable to understand how many marks his son has scored in different subjects in the HSLC examination, but is glad to know that he has passed with flying colours and is happy over the fact that many people have gathered at his house to congratulate the boy.
