GUWAHATI, Feb 26: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Friday laid the foundation stone of a Tea Park at Chhaygaon.

To be set up as per the model of the Dubai Tea Park, the park would be built on an area of 112 bighas of land and the total project cost is estimated at Rs 2,572.29 lakh.

The Tea Park would house all necessary components including tea auction centre and tea museum.

It will also have warehousing and processing facilities like tea grinding, blending, packaging and other utility services under one roof.

“Assam has its own identity in the global market for its 150-year-old tea industry. The Tea Park will be a fillip to the tea industry of the state as it will bring a sea change in the direct export of Assam tea. Besides generating employment, the Tea Park will also provide ample opportunities for business growth of small tea growers in Assam,” the Minister said.
