Tea Board to set up quality control bodies

KOLKATA, July 2 � The Tea Board is planning to set up two councils for ensuring quality of exports, its chairman MGVK Bhanu said today, reports PTI.

�We are planning tea councils, one for north India and another for the south. The councils will be entrusted with the task to ensure quality of tea for exports,� Bhanu said at the AGM of Calcutta Tea Traders Association.

The councils are expected to be formed in the next six months. �The council will have exporters and representatives of all stakeholders in the system including Tea Board representatives as members,� Tea Board deputy chairman Roshini Sen said.

Bhanu said the councils would have primary responsibility for any quality related issues for tea exports.
