Tarun Gogoi demands referendum on CAB

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi today asked for a referendum over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill as it has been facing resentment from various parties and organisation of the State.

Gogoi raised the demand while talking to the media in the premises of the Assam Legislative Assembly after the Union Cabinet approved the Bill today in New Delhi. Expressing his resentment over the Bill, Gogoi said, From the very beginning, we have been opposing the Bill and I am confident that all congress MPs will also oppose the Bill in the parliament.

Meanwhile, he also alleged that the talks held by Union Home Minister Amit Shah with various organisations of Assam to take their views over the Bill were nothing but a farce.

He also criticised Union Minister Rajnath Singh who said that representatives of various organisations and parties of Assam had failed to convince the government during the talks.

Actually the BJP is not in a mood to accept any comment against the Bill, he said. He also slammed AGP president Atul Bora for his stand in support of the Bill.
