GUWAHATI, Jan 23 � Riding on a brilliant unbeaten 119 by Tarjinder Singh Assam took a massive 260-run first innings lead before declaring at 435 for eight.
On the penultimate day of the four-day Group C Ranji Trophy match at Porvorim, Goa today, the host team were 82 for no loss in their second innings.
Resuming at the overnight total of 243 for five, Assam batsmen continued their good form and crossed the 400 mark. Tarjinder, overnight unbeaten on 39, batted for 401 minutes. He faced 3-4 balls and hit eight boundaries and a six in his unbeaten knock. Other not out batsman yesterday Syed Mohammad also provide able support to Tarjinder and cracked 69 off 145 balls. His 207-minute knock was studded with 10 fours. The pair added 119 runs for the sixth wicket which proved to be most vital in putting Goa in trouble.
Assam�s bowling hero Sarupam Purkayastha scored 30 and built a 65-run partnership with Tarjinder for the seventh wicket.
Now it is Assam bowlers� turn tomorrow as Goa still need 178 runs to avoid defeat.
