By R Dutta Choudhury

GUWAHATI, March 30 Talks with the Ranjan Daimary faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) are likely to start soon and the Government will start the process of facilitating the release of Daimary on bail immediately after receiving a formal letter from the outfit expressing its desire to come for talks.

Highly placed official sources told The Assam Tribune that the Government of Indias interlocutor PC Haldar already met Ranjan Daimary in jail on a few occasions to have initial parleys to pave the way for formal talks. Sources said that the Government would require a formal letter from the outfit before taking the next step.

Sources said that as several of the central committee members of the NDFB (R ) are outside the country, their views would be sought before taking the next step forward. The commander-in-chief of the outfit, B Sanbijit is in Myanmar along with other members of the outfit, while, a few central committee leaders are also in Bangladesh along with a handful of members of the outfit. The NDFB has started the process of getting signed letters from the leaders who are outside to express their support to the process of talks with the Government.

Official sources said that the Government is not keen on starting process of talks without becoming sure that all the senior leaders of the outfit are in favour of talks and the chairman should be authorized by all the central committee members to hold talks with the Government. Those letters will be handed over to Haldar by the NDFB leaders and only then the Government will start the process of talks. The process is likely to start in the later part of April.
