SIVASAGAR, Aug 17 - The Tai Ahom Yuba Patishad, Sivasagar staged a sit-in demonstration at Temple Road here on August 15 demanding, among others, establishment of a medical college, an engineering college, a mining school, a Central university, increase in seats in the ITI at Demow, declaration of at least five higher secondary schools in each constituency as model schools, setting up a refinery, a LPG bottling plant, an international airport, converting Bhojo and Simulguri fly stations into national standard, doing necessary ground work for declaring the Charaideo maidams as world heritage site, evicting all residences and business houses from near the Rangghar and also creating a sport arena on a 400-bigha adjacent field, establishment of SAI sports centre and a national level stadium in Sivasagar.

In a release, the youth body said that the organisation was assured of adopting steps by the district administration during Meenakshi Sundarams tenure as DC of Sivasagar on November 26, 2014. But no steps have been taken so far. The youth organisation threatened to call a district bandh on September 18 if the Sivasagar district administration fails to respond to their demands within 30 days.
