Swiss NGO distributes aid among flood-hit

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Aug 17 - Swiss NGO Aide et Action organised a flood response programme for the flood-affected families of Lakhimpur district on Wednesday last under the sponsorship of Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

Hygiene kits comprising bucket, mug, phenyl, bleaching powder, dettol liquid, bath soap, detergent powder, sanitary pads and ORS were distributed among 150 selected households of Gormur Sonapur, No. 5 Merbil and Anusbari villages of Karunabari Development Block of Lakhimpur district.

The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting safe water, sanitation and hygienic practice among the affected villages to aid in their post-flood recovery efforts and contribute to the promotion of public health. The programme was attended by Uttar Laluk Gram Panchayat president and vice president Biju Saikia and Jatin Morang along with ward members Kankana Saikia and Sadananda Kawa. Girindra Brahma, Assistant General Manager of SIDBI was also present during the distribution programme.

Aide et Action has also planned similar programmes in various Blocks of the district over the month.
