Swearing-in of KAAC members today

By Correspondent

DIPHU, Jan 10 The 26 newly-elected members of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) will be sworn in tomorrow at an official function to be held at Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) stadium.

Karbi Anglong Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar will administer the oath of office to the members on behalf of the Governor of Assam, who is the guardian of the Sixth Schedule areas of Assam.

Chomong Kro, chairman of ASDC, the closest ally of the conglomeration PAPA, today said he would not blame his party for failing to garner majority in the KAAC election. He said, Why we fell short of majority needs to be assessed but this much I can say that we did not get sufficient time to organise ourselves. We could not carry the massage to the masses. After disbanding UPDS, we had barely 10 days time for preparing for the election.

All the 15 Congress MACs were present at the district Congress headquarters today along with local senior leaders Biren Sing Engti, MP and Kharsing Engti, State Minister for Hill Areas Department (HAD).

In spite of his personal failure, district Congress president Sum Ronghang looked ecstatic during the get-together. Addressing the Congress workers, he said, It is the faith of the people in Congress for which we have been voted to power for the third time. Mentioning about the dissidents, he said, Congress is a large party and minor slip-ups cannot dislodge the Congress.
