Swami Vivekananda�s birthday celebrated

DIBRUGARH, Jan 16 � The 151st Vivekananda Jayanti was celebrated as the National Youth Day at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya here on Monday with a day-long programme.

Sattriya dance, Bharatanatyam, creative dance and dhol playing presentations by the students received huge appreciation from the audience. There was also a yoga demonstration by the students.

To mark the day, a cycle rally was also organised by the school management in the morning within the town. About 300 students participated in the cycle rally. Students from various other schools also joined the rally.

Earlier, Rupankar Goswami, manager, Rajgarh Tea Estate, while addressing the students as the chief guest, said that in an effort to build a strong nation a student must manage time, serve mankind and take care of the environment. �Time is same for all of us. Great people could do so many marvellous things because of time management,� he said.

�Even in his short life of 39 years, Swami Vivekananda did tremendous work. Our life becomes meaningful if we offer service to other needy people. This is the cream of Vedanta what Swamiji preached throughout his teachings,� he added.

Ravindranath Savdeykar, principal of the school, spoke about the objectives of the Vivekananda Kendra. Other dignitaries present in the event included Dr Shristidhar Dutta, former Dean, Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, Sriparna Bagchi, Dr Vasant Barve and Dr Minakshi Barve.

A portrait of Swami Vivekananda was also placed at the Thana Chariali intersection where short lectures and floral tributes were organised by various local organisations.

Lumding: The birthday of Swami Vivekanada, commemorated as National Youth Day, was celebrated in different institutions at Lumding in a befitting manner. Ramkrishna Seva Samiti organised a procession, with the portrait of Swami Vivekanada, which travelled the town area of Lumding and returned to the seva samiti premises.

Jitendra Chandra Gope, retired teacher, garlanded the portrait of Swamiji, located at the Vivekananda railway stadium. In this connection, a quiz competition was arranged in the school premises, wherein Mrinmoy Paul and Manish Kr Singh got the 1st prize while Chandan Bhowmick and Gaurav Das got the 2nd prize as Prasenjit Majumdar and Saurav Das got the 3rd prize.

The programme was conducted by Rajib Roy. In the contest �Youth Parliament�, Argha Das, Manish Singh, Spandan Bhowmicck and Mrinmoy Pal got 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. In the limited over cricket game, the team �Adventure� became champions while �Dead Evil� were runners-up. The students of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Lumding organised a motor cycle and scooter rally with the portrait of Vivekananda. The NGO, �Gharoa�, CCRT Cultural Club, National HS School also observed the day in a befitting manner.

Gauripur: Under the auspcies of the Ramkrishna Sarada Sangha Gauripur, the 151st birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was observed on the premises of the Sangha on January 12 with a day-long programme. A lively discussion was held on the contribution of Swamiji where a few invited dignitaries took part. Hundreds of devotees took part in the prayer and offered puspanjali. Bhog prasad was also distributed among the devotees. Various competitions were also organised. Warm clothes were also distributed among the poor people of the locality. Ramkrishna Sevashram, Dhubri also observed the tithi of Vivekananda with a three-day programme.
