GUWAHATI, May 17 - Suspended member of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) Basanta Doley was today arrested in connection with the Bhangagarh police station case for allegedly altering and enhancing marks for candidates, who had appeared for the post of Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) in 2014.
He was currently out on bail after being arrested in connection with another case with the Dibrugarh police station last year.
As per the FIR lodged by Bedanta Bikash Das with the Bhangagarh police station, he was demanded Rs 15 lakh for the post of ADO.
Suspended chairman of the APSC Rakesh Paul and junior engineer of Soil Conservation Department Mofidul Islam were named in the FIR and Paul was even shown arrested in connection with the case.
A latest forensic report found discrepancies in answer scripts belonging to 27 new candidates who had appeared for the posts of Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) under the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) in 2014
The recent forensic report had revealed that two former members of the APSC including Doley had altered and enhanced marks in the answer scripts of these 27 candidates who had allegedly secured jobs by payment of cash.
Doley was arrested for the second time in connection with the cash-for-job scam. Doley will be produced before the Court of Special Judge, Assam tomorrow.
The 27 candidates had appeared in the written examination in the year 2014 and the oral test was conducted in 2015 under the APSC.
Another former APSC member is likely to be arrested soon in connection with the case, along with the 27 candidates who are now part of the government setup in different districts.
The investigating agency has so far arrested 44 accused, including over 30 government officials, in connection with the case.
