Sushma Swaraj to visit Silchar on Dec 27

SILCHAR, Dec 20 - Unfazed by the results of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to officially begin its poll campaign for next year�s Assembly election with External Affairs Minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj�s visit to Silchar on December 27.

Sources in the BJP here confirmed that Swaraj will address a rally to motivate the party workers at Nashing HS and Govt HS School playground. Over 50,000 BJP workers from across Barak Valley are expected to attend the rally.

Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP�s all-India general secretary Ram Madhav, Assam State Pravari Mahendra Singh and former Congress Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will accompany the External Affairs Minister.

On the other hand, preparations are afoot to make the programme successful as the BJP office-bearers and workers from the three districts along with Dima Hasao are seen busy giving final touches to the official arrangements.

Meanwhile, BJP ticket seekers wishing to contest in the elections have already started thronging the district BJP office. According to party office-bearers, there are 60 aspirants from Cachar district so far.

The party�s State general secretary Bhabesh Kalita, who is already in Silchar to take stock of the poll proceedings had a meeting with the BJP workers from respective constituencies of the district for selection of candidates who could be expected to win them maximum seats.
