Super League closing towards a thriller

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - The RG Baruah Super Division League is moving towards an exciting finish. In two vital championship round matches today at the Nehru Stadium, table topper FC Green Valley managed a 1-1 draw against defending champions ASEBSC while Navajyoti Club outplayed NF Railway SC 4-1 to keep their trophy hopes alive.

With these results, Green Valley maintained the lead with 20 points while the Navajyoti boys are just 2 points behind. They will face each other on Thursday in their last match and Green Valley need just one point to win their maiden Super League title.

The match between Green Valley and ASEBSC was a thriller. The initial minutes of the game saw the play being confined to the midfield with both the teams struggling to make inroads into the opponent territory. The ASEB young guns gained some momentum in the next few minutes which led them to find their lead in the 33rd minute of play. The inform Jwmbla Brahma broke the deadlock off a thorough pass from player Sanjoy Boro from the edge of the box to put the defending champions in front. The remaining minutes of the first half saw Green Valley desperately searching for the equaliser but in vain. With the second half kicking off, it seemed to be an counter attacking game. In 60th minute, a combined attack from the midfield opened a golden opportunity for ASEB to double the lead. Sanjoy from the left flank found Rahul Das infront of the goal but the latter hit the second post to the relief of the Green Valle team members.

Green Valley�s Nigerian striker Micheal Lucky missed a chance in 73rd minute after the ball hit the second post from a George Prince centre. ASEB striker Jessy Vanlalmuana then created a dangerous move from 40 yards, entered the box but missed the post by inches in the 79th minute.

Finally, Green Valley leveled the match in the 80th minute when midfielder Gaiham Rongmei netted the equaliser . The ball, after being deflected off ASEB defender found Gaiham inside the box who made no mistake to make it 1-1.

On the other hand, Navajyoti Club completely outplayed NF Railway SC (4-1) in Ground 2. Laldhuwma scored a brace, in the 34th and 49th minutes, while Timothy Onyenka (1st min) and Charles Egware (41st min) scored the other goals for Navajyoti. Chayaram Basumatary scored the consolation goal for the railmen in the 70th minute.
