GUWAHATI, Aug 25 - After five days interruption due to bad weather RG Baruah Super Division League bounced back on a sunny afternoon at Nehru Stadium and Sunrise AC shined, thrashed Gauhati Town Club 3-0 and earned full points today.
Apart from first 30 minutes Sunrise dominated the match with goals from Maneswar Mushahary, Apurba Phukan and Rahul Boro.
It was GTC mid field who started to create opportunities in the first part of the game A Shamjetshabam Singh corner was well pointed to veteran Sanjiba Rongpi, but the skipper failed to capitalize just in front of the goal line which could be regarded as the best chance so far. Rongpi showed some individual skills there after. GTC young guns nearly dominated the first half until the sudden blow from Sunrise.
The dead lock was finally broken by Sunrise, not GTC in 38th minute. It was right winger Apurba Phukan who took the corner and successfully converted it into goal by defender Maneswar from back post. They maintained the lead at lemon break.
The sharpness of Sunrise became more sharper in the second half as they created pressure from both wings. Apurba looked different style today and scored a fantastic goal in 58th minute .He entered into the box from right after a calculated pass from Francish, defeated defenders and finished in style.
Then foreigner Francish created two solo moves from righ flank and put pressure in GTC box.His eye catching minus gave substitute Rahul Boro to score with a powerful header in dying minutes of the match. With this win Sunrise opened their account after shocked by newly upgraded Ganga SC on the second day of the league.GTC beat FCI SC in the first match.
SAI SC down Kamrupa FC in A Division: In Jibeswar Goswami A Division League SAI FC thrashed Kamrupa FC by 5-1 at Ground 2 today. Bishnu Bordoloi scored in 24th and 76th minutes while Rupjyoti Bora (15th minute), Paresh Boro (52nd min) and Pranjal Bhumij (89th min) scored the other goals. The consolation goal for Kamrupa was scored by skipper Ajay Rabha in 88th minute.
