GUWAHATI, July 28 Displaying quality, Sunrise Athletic Club outsmarted Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 3-1 in the RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League.

In an entertaining encounter at the first ground of the Nehru Stadium here today, the scoreboard remained blank at the break.

Tonay Halder opened the account for Sunrise in the 48th minute while Agyekum Enoch Amof made it 2-0 in the 68th minute.

FCI medio David Gayari reduced the margin in the 84th minute but Stanley Okechi hammered the final nail to the FCI coffin in the 89th minute.

Sunrise looked quite a balanced side as all the players shouldered their responsibilities successfully. Studded with two Nigerian players Amof and Okechi, Sunrise was a dominating side from the initial stage. They created several openings in the first session but failed to hit the target. Sunrise attackers Okechi and Amof combined well with Kh Vikram Singh and Retendra Kaint Singh and in the second half they tore apart the FCI defence.

Tonay, anticipating a pass from Vikram, beat FCI custodian Gobinda Basumartary from an acute angle. Inspired by the goal, Sunrise boys enhanced their speed and made repeated forays. Off a move initiated by Retendra and Okechi, Amof fired home from inside the box.

FCI veteran David utilised the scoring opportunity inside the box and drove into the goal off a pass from Imlitoshi.

But the best goal of the match was scored by Okechi when he beat two FCI defenders and goalkeeper with his individual skill and gently pushed the ball into the net keeping his cool.

FCI substitute Lalramrel Hmar missed the easiest scoring opportunity in the 85th minute when he failed to beat Sunrise keeper Manish Timsina in a point blank situation.

Today, FCI attackers miserably failed to break the watertight Sunrise defence most of the time. Their midfielders were also in a poor shape and hardly could support either the attackers or defenders.

Nabajyoti-Rajbari tie drawn: The A Division match between Rajbari Athletic Club and Nabajyoti Club ended in a 1-1 draw on the second ground.

Nilkamal Singh took his team ahead in the 19th minute and maintained the lead till the break. Nabajyoti striker Ramon Singh finally managed to score the equaliser in the 72nd minute.

Todays matches: (Super Div) GTC vs Green Valley; (A Div) Rising vs Jewel Star.
