Sunrise, Navajyoti play 1-1 draw

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 In a keenly contested encounter of the Abhishek Motors RG Baruah GSA Super Division Football League match at the Nehru Stadium here today, Sunrise and Navajyoti Club played a 1-1 draw.

On a slightly slippery ground both the teams adopted attacking tactics from the word go and created several goal bound moves with attacks and counter -attacks. But due to lack of imagination at the final moments strikers of both the teams squandered all the scoring chances.

However, credit should be given to defenders of both the teams who toiled hard throughout the course in order to prevent the opponent frontliners from doing damage.

Navajyoti defenders Edache Echefunu Francis stood like rock to foil most of the Sunrise attacks. Sunrise defenders Bikram Halder, Lalit Konwar and Prana Ghosh also built up a watertight defence.

Sunrises Nigerian attackers Christian Chukwumezie and Uzoma Chidozie Ejiogu tried to combine but they have to do more homework to improve understandings. But their winger Kh Bikram Singh was quite agile and seemed to be dangerous with his speed and dribbling.

Rockey Philem put Navajyoti 1-0 ahead in the 20 minute whth a header. Anticipating the ball off a set piece taken by Ananta Boro, Rockey headed home from a crowded defence (1-0).

Sunrise drew parity in the 68th minute through Vikram Singh who took advantage of navajyoti goalkeepers blunder.

It was a combined move of Christian and Uzoma and finally the ball came to unmarked Vikram who pushed home firmly (1-1).

A win would have been a bonus for both side as considering the spirit of the game both the teams deserved points from this match.
