Sunrise gain vital points

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 17 - Sunrise Athletic Club has collected three vital points in the RG Baruah Super Division Football League today.

In a low-paced match at the Nehru Stadium here, Sunrise humbled Food Corporation of India (FCI) Sports Club 3-0. With this victory, Sunrise raised their points to 7 and placed at sixth in the eight-team table. They are now above FCI and Ganga SC who have four points each in their kitty after completing the preliminary round.

The FCI boys were too poor to counter the opponent and like the previous matches they were seen reluctant in going all out with a positive approach. All the players looked novice and hardly have the credential to play in the Super Division.

The first session went goal less and no team could show any aggression for damaging opponents territory.

But in the later part of the match, Sunrise frontliners suddenly geared up and fired three salvos in quick succession.

Nigerian striker Francis opened the account in the 56th minute off a goal mouth melee. Sunrise defender Maneswar Musahary tried to beat the opponent goalkeeper Gobinda Boro with a solo effort but finally Francis pushed the ball home when Gobinda fumbled in gathering.

Francis struck again in the 60th minute with a firm drive. Capitalising on undisciplined FCI defence, he beat Gobinda at the far post with an angular shot. Soyao Thangkhul completed the drubbing in the 83rd minute from inside the box.

Todays matches: Green Valley vs Navajyoti (Super Div); Rajbari vs Sp Union (A Div).
