BARPETA, April 16 - Sundaridia Satra near here has been badly damaged by the earthquake that occurred on Wednesday evening. Walls of Bhajghar, Naamghar and several Maths have encountered cracks due to the earthquake.
The cause of concern for both Satra Management Committee and lakhs of devotees is that the Bhajghar has leaned which may not be possible to repair.
Sundaridia is a historical Satra established by Mahapurush Sri Sri Madhabdeva where the saint spent 14 years and six months. He composed a number of immoral verses during his stay, including the Naamghosha. The local people here have urged the Government to repair the damage so that the glory of the Satra remains intact.
