SULFA activist killed

TINSUKIA, June 17 � Manik Dohotia alias Meghon, a surrendered ULFA militant-turned-dreaded dacoit was killed in an encounter at Dirak Pathar, Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday.

According to sources, Tinsukia Police received the report of the movement of Meghon in the area, and accordingly with the help of Bordumsa Police Station of Tinsukia district adjacent to the area, a search operation ensued. Noticing the police force, Meghon who was taking shelter in a house started firing at the police party. In retaliatory fire, he was killed. However, three of his accomplices managed to escape.

The police have recovered the AKM rifle that Meghon had snatched from a security personnel on May 19 at Pengeree Bihutoli. He had also snatched an Insus rifle from a security guard of Police Guest House, Tinsukia on October 1, 2013. Manik was involved in many dacoity, extortion, kidnapping cases in the last two years.
