SUCI (C) protest over poor road conditions

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 12 - The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), Kamrup Metro Committee today staged a demonstration at the DC Kamrup (Metro) office demanding immediate steps for improving the condition of roads in Guwahati, repair of roads dug for laying pipelines of the water supply schemes and making the Adabari bus stop convenient for passengers.

Expressing concern at the condition of roads in the entire city and a total neglect of the roads that have been dug up for laying the water supply pipelines, SUCI (C) workers assembled in front of the Judges Field from where they marched to the DCs office. A memorandum in this regard was also sent to the Guwahati Development Department (GDD) Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.

Along with the main thoroughfares, the condition of the lanes and by-lanes of the city is equally pathetic. Footpaths on both sides of even some of the newly repaired roads are in a dilapidated condition, totally unfit to walk on. Broken slabs on many footpaths expose the drain underneath and are like deathtraps for the pedestrians. The BJP and alliance partners, after coming to power, have totally forgotten their tall promises made to the public of Guwahati before the polls, the memorandum said.

The organisation also drew attention of the authorities to the miserable condition of the Adabari bus stop, calling for passenger-friendly facilities at the important bus terminus.
